Hidden Letter Technique using the Fabulous Flamingo stamp set

My eldest niece was 21 at the beginning of the month and today we get to celebrate. She loves all things flamingo so when I saw the Fabulous Flamingo stamp set sitting on my shelf I knew I had found the ideal stamp to use on her card.

I wanted to try something a little different, and opted to use the Hidden Letter Technique. And, this is what I came up with when I combined the two.

Technique, Fabulous Flamingo, Oakfield Crafts, Stampin' Up!

There are four stamps that make up the flamingo so I decided to use my Stamparatus (available 1 June if you didn't get one in the pre-releases). The Stamparatus made is easy for me to not only stamp the image on the card but on the envelope too.

I stamped the flamingo as follows onto a 9.5 x 14.9 cm piece of Whisper White.

1. The Whole body and legs image in Flirty Flamingo.
2. The Solid Body only image in Powder Pink.
3. The Outline of body & neck in Tuxedo Black, and then
4. The outline of the legs in Tuxedo Black.

Although the Stamparatus only has two plates it does of course have two sides on each plate so there was no need to remove the stamps. Perfect when you have a multiple of images to stamp.

Once I had stamped the flamingo on the Whisper White card front and on the envelope, I then added the water and reeds to the card front. The water was stamped in Bermuda Bay to co-ordinate with the base card and the reeds were stamped in Lemon Lime Twist.

Once all the stamping was done I then had to figure out the placement of the dies to cut out the letters. I worked out where the bottom of the dies had to be and drew a very faint pencil line. Using the Large Letter Framelits I cut out the first three letters "HOL". There is only one L in the set so I then had to cut the other two letters "LY". I also remembered to keep the inside of the O because that would have to be glued onto the card front.

I then cut out three more of each of the letters from some scrap Whisper White and glued them to the back of each of the corresponding letter.

Once the Whisper White card front was glued to the Flirty Flamingo cardstock (10.0 x 14.4 cm), I was then able to glue the letters back in place, being careful to make sure I had the two Ls the right way round. Lastly, I glued the middle of the O back into place.

I'll find out later when we all meet up for dinner whether  Holly likes the card.

Happy stamping
